Can I make something work with this?

(I don't know much about computers so please go easy and I hope this is in the right section.)


About 3 or 4 years ago I wanted to get a better video card for my computer to actually be able to play computer games. I soon learned that I have a integrated video card (everything is soldered on to the hard drive) and I could not change my card. So, I quit with that idea instantly.


A few days ago though, another friend of mine said there was a way for me to use a better video card. I would have to get something that goes into a pci (hope that's right) slot that will let me add on another video card. He told me this after looking at my computer's manual.


So, is what he says possible? If so, what exactly must I get to be able to use another video card?

Thanks for any and all help.


(p.s. I have no idea what card I will get and I'll have to get more RAM, but that's another question for another day I guess.)
 
Well the integrated video card is soldered onto the motherboard, but this isn't an issue. I think there mas just a miscommunication. All motherboards come with integrated video chips that are attached to the motherboard so you can't exactly replace the integrated video chip but you can add an additional video card. If you want to add a video card to play the latest games, you are going to need a PCIe x16 slot.

Top is the PCie x16 slot, bottom is PCI. Most video cards will be better than the integrated graphics chip on the motherboard, but if you want to run games you want to get a card that runs on a PCIe x16 slot.

Actually not all motherboards come with integrated graphics, mine didn't. Higher end motherboards tend not to have integrated graphics. If you can find the model number of your computer and post it up.
 
Unfortunately your computer doesn't have a PCI-E x16 slot, which is necessary for utilizing a decent video card. You can still get a video card for a PCI slot, but if you are looking to game than a new computer may be in order.

How good of a video card can you get with a pci slot? I don't really know about video cards. All that games that look cool that I've seen say you need a Radion (if that's right) or another card that starts with an "A" that I can't remember.

I just wanted to get some single player PC games to play in my free time. I don't know if you need really serious stuff to play those, but yeah that's what I was planning to do if I could get a card and such.

The Best PCI cards you can get is either the Nvidia 8400gs or the Radeon HD2400 pro. Both the cards are pretty low compared to today's standards, but it will play games that are a little older pretty well. Oh and could you give me some of your computer specifications (just go on my computer and right click it and go all the way down to properties click that and you should be on the general tab. Tell me everything it says on the page except the part where it says registered to.)
