Hi,

I am about the buy a Creative XFI Extreme Music, but am not sure if it's really any good. I listen to a lot of music, also while am playing. I don't really game a lot but I do care about good sound quality.
Will I notice some difference between my onboard realtek and this card?
I am going to buy it from a guy for 30 euroes, is that a good price?
But, do you also need a good headset? I mean, if you have a ferrari, you should also have some ferrari tires, right?

Thanks anyway,

Zangetsu

It makes music sound better, especially if you're using headphones. You don't need really expensive ones, I'm using $40 philips ones and it sounds amazing.

Creative X-FI will make a massive difference, particuarly with the X-Fi crystaliser and the eax. You will definately notice a difference with mp3's.

if you're serious about buying a good music playback card. buy an m-audio...
creative's ADACs are horrible... it's a poor quality card full of features

i'm sure this is more then you were looking to spend, but there is a world of difference between a cheap consumer sound card... and a sound card that can be used at the professional level.

Unless you have top quality speakers, then that card is a complete waste of money. It has a very good sample rate, however it is very much a low featured board and unless you are into home recording it is complete overkill. In terms of value for money it is extremely poor.

This is much better for the average user who wants excellent quality sound in music (particularly mp3) and gaming: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102024

In addition, this card is PCIe x 1 card, meaning it will take advantage of your motherboard's PCIe1 slot, leaving a standard PCI slot available for other purposes if required.

I currently use a Creative X-Fi extreme gamer sound card, for these cards to perform well you'll need to get some 5.1 or better 7.1 surround sound speakers. If you don't intend to get good high end speakers system, it's not worth getting this sound card.

you will definately hear the difference with headphones... and even mid range speakers with the XFi-crystalizer....

i have the creative xfi fatality soundcard which i spent 150 dollars on. long story short, i spent about three months trying to get the damn thing to work with vista. creative was absolutely worthless and provided no help at all. i finally got it set up right, and the sound quality was absolutely incredible. i cant stress that enough.... just beautiful, clean, crisp, amazing sound quality.

and then 10 minutes later it stopped working again, and i havent been able to figure it out since.

Unisntall the X-fi drivers, shutdown, hold the power button for 5 seconds, move the x-fi into the pci slot furtherest from the CPU and then clear cmos. Then reinstall the driver. If that doesn't fix it, you have failing onboard ram (sound card) - i know because i had the exact same thing when i first got mine, RMA'd it and the new one worked instantly and has ever since.

Really? I just installed the vista drivers from creative's website and it worked. Although it didn't have all the programs that xp drivers came with, it did have the basic control panel and such.

as I said in previous posts.. true to source ADACs are the important factor. not SNR or sample rates. the m-audio does an excellent job at keeping the signal as close to the source as possible.

your giving misguided information to people

Sure the maudio card is better, but will you notice the difference with normal speakers, cause your wallet will surely notice a difference, especially if you were to buy an cheaper x-fi, perhaps the xtrememusic or gamer.
