microphone jack on back of pc...how do i record?

theres a microphone jack on back of pc...i want to hook up a mic and wondered how do i record a mp3 file i?

do i need special software to record, or can i use something in vista? any help appreciated!

google and download Audacity, that is what you want to use.

Depending on the mic, you might have to get a mixer. For instance if you just have a regular desktop mic than a mixer is not needed but if you have a studio type mic then you will need a mixer and then you just plug the mixer into that audio port.

Like i said in my post. Audacity, works great.

Audacity is a free program with decent amount of options. I use Cool Edit Pro which is the predecessor of Adobe Audition and it's awesome. Lots of options.
