6000+ an SLI 9800GTX+

Those faults primarily affect laptop GPUs becuse they have to operate at higher temperatures and go through heaps heat-up cool-down cycles, AFAIK desktop GPUs don't suffer from this problem, though I'm not sure about this... I'm not sure if desktop chips were affected as well?

ok guys if i do this i was going to buy a new MOBO an PSU aswell.
the the guys that thik my CPU is a pice of SHIT @ 3.2GHz its 3DMARKo6 CPU score is the same as a 2.66GHz E8200 so i dont think its that bad a CPU.

oh an what games do i play? everything an everything that is demanding an a shooter or real time stratgy.

what do u think would be better for gaming preformance this or i was also thinking about getting a Q6600 an a new MOBO an OCing.

I have a 6000 x2. Love this proccy forever. But it might be in your best interest to go for a q6600. Overclocking a q6600? Heaven dude.

wow this thread really went off track.
what is a gtx 280 gx2? Did u blend 2 cards together?
I thought the 4870x2 was the best out right now?

You're right, the laptop chips have been effected more than desktop, however the desktop gpu's are slowly beginning to fail.

As for the actual point of this thread. When you play games, what does your processor run at? Percentage wise. Really I think you'll be ok, as others have said games these days use more GPU than CPU power. And hell, just try it with the 6000 for now, not like you can't buy a phenom later if the 6000 isn't enough juice.

For gaming performance the Q6600 is most definitely going to have much higher performance when gaming. Even though not all games out today are mulit-threaded (though some are) most of them will still take advantage of the 4 cores. For example, I just played DiRT on mine last night. When I started the game my first core spiked to 100% constant as it played the video for the intro. Once I actually got to racing the usage spread evenly throughout the other three cores, with DiRT maxed i use 40% of my cpu. With Crysis maxed i use 30-40% of my cpu. If you can afford it, go quad.

Dominates? NVIDIA still walks all over ATI? L-O-L... you have no clue how much trouble NVIDIA has had lately? The 4-series cards absolutely owned, NVIDIA has desperately been cutting the prices to keep their sales afloat and a fault with some of their onboard graphics chips has caused callbacks of thousands of laptops and brand-name desktops, resulting in a good deal of losses. They haven't been walking over anyone - or anything - and they're quite frankly struggling right now.

I bought a Gigabyte GA-M78SM-S2H motherboard not too long ago. It has an onboard Geforce 8200 video card made (surprise) NVIDIA. The onboard video has started to give me problems recently. Recently I have read about other people having problems with this motherboard and the onboard video. I am going to replace my power supply then get a new video card and this will hopefully solve all my current problems. (Going to likely buy a PNY VCG88512GXEB-FLB GeForce 8800 GT video card.)
