Case Fan, GPU Fan, and CPU Fan Recommendations.

I have a HD4870, and the stock cooler is just too loud for me. I dont mind it when im running a game and I can set the fan as high as I want, cause the music and game audio blocks it out. But for everything else its kinda annoying.

So what is a good fan that will fit over this card, and run quieter than the stock cooler? I dont mind if the temp stays the same, but if it get it lower than 40c, than thats a plus.

CPU is intel Q6600, and my case is the Centurion 534. So whatever is going to fit and cool better than stock.

Than for case fans, I want 120mm fans that push lots of air, but are also quiet.

Price isnt much of an issue, so the $50+ fans are an option. I just dont know whats gonna work the best and be the most efficient.

Well then, I dont think you'd like the Antec 900 case lol.

Lets just say i cant hear my 4870 fan nor my thoughts...however everythings cool temperture wise and I have a head set :D

I could just keep my tv turned up, music on, and a/c on, and play guitar. :rolleyes:

I like my case though, and it has good air flow, so my stuff stays pretty cool. Im jsut really used to my old systems having only 3 fans (back exhuast, psu, pcu) and be very quiet.

Mainly its my gpu fan that is loud, and an old fan I have right now that is just there to be a place holder.

I only hear mine when I put the fan past 60%, which isnt bad. It whisper quiet when im sleeping, but it jsut when my room is quiet and im working on the comp I want it to perform with good temps and good volume.

Any good CPU heatsink and fans? Right now I sit from 30-45*C idle-load. Which I dont think is too bad, but I want it better. lol

Again look at zalman, they are professionals when it comes to good temps and being quiet.

BTW you haven't oc the cpu yet, so that's why you have those temps lol

True. I had it at 3ghz not too long ago, and the temps were raised by 5-8*C, but I dropped it back to normal until my cooling situation is finished.

I looked at the Arctic Freezer 7 pro 92. looks good and cheap. It says .9sone, and isnt that around 40db? That seems kinda loud.

Let me know if there is something else around $20-$60 that will be better if its out there.

Geeze, my cart is almost to $300 again. lol
 
it seems everyones cards idle great!

However, mine idles at 76!

Why? i even increased the fan speed to 60...and still no result

Make sure you arent writing Manual over where it says percent(in blue), but in the Value of the 'fan speed algorithm'(in pink), and you are only chaning the number in the 'fan speed percent' (also in pink).

At 60% you will definetly hear the card, almost like a hair dryer, so if you hear it kicking up that high, I dont see why your temps wont go down.
 
yes everythign is set to how you say.

I wont be able to hear my cards fan...I have 5 fans on medium so already kinda loud lol

plus i have 3 fans directly blowing on it. well 2 actually as 1 is exhaust
 
Thats strange.

I know first thing I did before putting the card in was taking the cover off and cleaning the old thermal compound and replacing it with a thin layer of AS5.

I kinda doubt that would be the 20-30c difference in our temps though.
 
on my pc wizard something displays as ACPI Thermal Zone.

What is this? is this my card? it says 40C

And on CPUID same thing... my actual card is not named on CPUID so maybe its the 4870 card?
 
I have a vf1000 for my 4850 and it is badass and quite, idle temp is 38C and under load it doesn't go past mid upper 40's sometimes 50's. That is also OC'ed.

I also have the 9500, badass as well.

Zalman is my number one cooling solution by far.
 
They look good, Ill probably go for the 9500. The 9700 didnt look like there was too much of a big difference in performance and sound.

Sweet, I got my monitor picked out, cooling for my pcu and gpu, so now to get some quiet, air-pushing monster fans for the case. I mount with zip ties so I can put a fan anywhere in my case. :)

Edit: I dont think ill notice a 2db increase, and thats not going to annoy me really anyways. I dont do much OC, so the fan will stay at a low rpm for the majority of the time, and I get a few *C lower.

Silentx are pretty good when it comes to air pushing and being quiet, i also like scythe case fans but both brands are pricey
 
Thats ok, I just spent $110 on the two zalman fans. If the fan is good enough I dont mind spending that much on one fan. haha.

Im thinking of getting a pci slot fan. That seems like the best way to prevent a pocket of air staying down there without adding a fan to push air towards the forn of the case, get pushed up towards the middle then sucked out.

Or I could remove the pci slots at the back of the case, replace it with meshing of some type and push air out from there. that sounds like a fun little mod.
 
Well my temp is still at 76-78 average!!

My fan speed is at 65%, but in GPU-z says my percent is 20%

How can this be fixed? when i first increased fan spedd it made a few loud sounds which i knew it would but it hasnt initially fix my heat problem for my card
 
Im not sure.

Do you have any fan programs installed that are maybe changing the fan to waht it is set to, and not what the profile is set to? Id probably make a new thread about it so more people see your problem, and not see it through my thread. lol

Anyways, the VF1000 blows air straight down. So im thinking of a setup like this.

If I ever add more cards in there, I can put the back fan as a side exhaust.

Look good? Im not used to having to care about heat. My last comp had the cpu fan, psu fan and one exhaust fan. It was a pentium4 1.7ghz, with a radeon 9200. haha
