Second diplay and sound problems when plugged in

I run dual monitors (laptop's monitor + another monitor) and have the sound on my laptop coming from the 3.5mm jack going to dual rca connectors that are hooked into a stereo.

I've had this problem for a while, but it seemed to be getting worse lately so I looked into it. When the laptop isn't plugged in to the power source, it works perfectly. When I plug it in to the power source, the second monitor starts to get a flicker in it almost like a refresh rate problem and the sound gets a high pitch buzzing/clicking sound that almost sounds like a high pitch chipmunk is in the speakers. I started trying to find the differences from the way the laptop runs when plugged versus not plugged in and I found a setting called "Process Power Management". Under that tab, the Minimum Process State was set at 5% on battery and 100% when plugged in. I brought the plugged in rate down to 5% as well and it almost completely took care of my problem. The screen is perfect and the high pitch sound is much quieter and far less noticable. If I unplug the power, it goes away completely though.

Why is it doing this?
What is the Minimum Process State or the Process Power Management?
Is there another way to rid myself of this problem or is this as good as a fix as I'll get?

There is a earth loop going on, coil up the leads and see if that works.

We have the same problem here at school, but we use a DI box, :P, but that is $$$$
