Which processor is better

HI I was wandering which processors would be better for gaming, the core 2 duo e8xxx series or the quad q9xxx series (not extreme).

And when comparing the price had to be the same (ex. shouldn't compare an e8300 to a q9450 because of the big price difference)

OR should I wait for the new i7 chips to come out and get that.
Thanks

most apps (if they even support threading at all), dont support more than 2 cores so its a waste. Also your unlikely to make full use of four cores at once even with multitasking.

Best off with a really good dual core

So if i get like a e8600 it would be a good choice??? and since you said that most apps use only 2 cores max, would the quad core be future proof when apps start using all four cores?

thanks for the reply

At the moment, i recommend getting the quad.

What do you use the computer for???

when recommending a quad are you factoring price and use into the equation? most people won't even utilize the minimum potential of a dual core proc, why go quad?

Because he's a day late and a dollar short, as usual. To the OP, if you have to ask if you need a Quad...you don't. 95% of the general public doesn't need a quad - they simply have one because they think they need it or for bragging rights (look at my uber syztem, yo! I's gotz 4 corz!!1!). Unless you're going to be doing some extremely CPU-intensive tasks (and no, playing Crysis is not an extreme task...), save your money and get the Dual Core.

well i was going to buy a decent gaming computer (with dual 9800gt, I'm not a mad gamer but time to time will play some games like wold in conflict and COD ) and I have and option to get duo (8400-8600) or quad (6600-9450)
thanks

Well some of the dual core processors cost a little more than the quad core.

yeah, just get the best core 2 duo under $200 (or however much you want to spend). usually the top one isn't worth it since its barely better than the second best. and they probably all overclock to similar speeds anyway.

K I think that I will get a core 2 duo E8300

Thanks
