Which processor is better

What do you use the computer for???

People these days don't read uh? Please look at the first post, Cohen.

Anyways, if you're going to game, get an E8400/E8500, that's gonna give you the best possible performance and is not too expensive say as an E8600 which only gives you .15GHz more than the E8500 and a .5 greater multiplier.

ok
thanks

Hmm, another Quad vs Dual core thread.

I somewhat regret going Quad, although it's performed very well with no problems so far.

With Nehalem around the corner, I'd say settle for a Core 2 Duo, the E8400 or E8500.

Ok, yeah everyone is telling me to get a E8400/E8500, so I will check them out and get one.

Thanks again!!!

tknick ,You may have just got a bad Q6700 :( .Alot of people with other quads as well as the q6700 get well into the 3.0 + ghz with their chips .Some of the e8400's that have come out recently dont OC as high as early models.I guess there is some luck involved to

why not wait a year for the new Intel i7 chips

I have read about the i7 chips and they sound pretty good, but when is it coming out because I am not in a rush to buy a new computer ( but here is the thing will I have to buy a different motherboard that is compatible with the i7 chips?)

late 2008/early 2009

the core i7 is based on nehalem and will feature HT again, a smaller construction , more cache, less heat and power draw, and 4 cores (8 virtual cpus due to HT).

Gonna be awesome.

And no you need a mobo they arent LGA775 they are Socket B (LGA1336 - lol thats nearly 1337 or "leet") . also you need DDR3. These boards will come out in like a year. None atm.

The i7 is gonna make the core2 go the way of the pentium 4...

K thanks a lot, now that I'm thinking about it I think that I will wait until the i7 chips come out (gonna be expensive, but hopefully worth it), and is it true that the i7 chips will save power by using less cores when applications don't demand it, because I read about that and I was just wandering thanks.

aparently the cheapest one is 2.6ghz, 4 cores, (8 logical cpus using hyperthreading) , 45nm construction, discrete L2 cache and 8mb of L3 cache and a 4.8ght FSB

That actually sounds really nice for the cheapest one ( specs look much better than a quad core)

bear in mind that cheap is like $370, which is like the same price as decentish quad at the minute

I think these i7s will be the bomb though.

True but since I will be waiting for the i7 chips to come out I will have a few months to save up (hopefully like 2500-3500 dollars)

And I was wandering could anyone be kind enough to give me a website that will show me all the i7 models that will come out with the specs

THANKS

quad just aint worth it atm

buy the best possible dual core you can instead

Incorrect. Future games will make good use of quad core CPUs as seen in Alan Wake. Id say go for quad core to be future proof, its not that much more but i wouldnt buy the extreme series just get the norm and OC.

Thanks for the advice but I will wait until the new i7 chips come out and I will buy one of those ( I will have more money saved up)

Thanks again
