1066mhz - worth it..?

I am about to buy a new computer and have a couple of simple questions regarding the RAM:

1) Is it better to have 2x2GB or 4x1GB (for example)..?
2) Could I get 1x2GB + 1x1GB (Same type), or just 3x1GB..?
3) Is it worth getting 1066mhz over 800mhz with a AMD Phenom Quad and mid priced motherboard..?

Thanks in advance! :)

I would say..for the cost of ram these days...get a good 2GBx 2GB kit..I will always recommend OCZ, but there are many good brands with kits.

If you can put pc-8000 or 8500 in your machine..I would certainly do it over pc-6400.

If budget is a concern then do what you can within it...

you gotta look at the price difference!

if its mearly peanuts difference you might aswell get the better speed-ocz are a good brand and they are supposed to overclock well

some people in here will tell you that you wouldnt notice the difference between the 800mhz and 1066mhz ram but if there was £10 difference between them i would pay the £10 but if it was £50 difference then i wouldnt!

I agree!

If the price diff is small then go bigger..

If it is more diff..say £50 as funky says..then go lower.

I also didnt even think...if you find 1GB kits cheaper then you might as well go 1gbx1gbx1gbx1gb, but you need to see what is better value.

Part 2 of your question, just ensure that you will be running in dual channel mode.

A processor (or M/B - can't remember which!) needs to be able to run in dual channel mode to have non-identical modules, am I correct in thinking?

If this is the case is it easy to find out whats compatible

You need a matched pair of ram ie , slot 1 - 1gb, slot 2 1gb, slot 3 1gb, slot 4 1gb to get 4GB of matched ram in dual channel.

either way, you need to make sure each ram slot (colour coded) has the same type of ram to make it dual channel (faster).

The only way you should go yo DDR2-1066 is if you are overclocking so that you can run your ram linked at or close to the FSB of your CPU so that its faster.
