I finaly am going to buy a hard drive because my 40gb one just isnt big enough. I am looking for an internal hd and have a few questions though: Will any internal hd with my pc? Will this one work? Here's some pictures of my current hd.

If i get a hd, will i just have to connect the Ide cable to it and thats that? Also, will vacuuming the inside of pc damage it, because as you can see, there is a lot of dust...

Thanks

Yes it would fit your PC.

And a vacuum can damage your pc but the best way to clean it without any damage is compressed air.

Alright but, in the second picture, that ide cable is ripped. (i think, might be separated?) Could i just attach the ide from the bottom and any extra power cable thats in my pc?

Thanks a lot!

are you just wanting to add your new HDD as a secondary HDD or are you going to remove your old one. and that cable should still work.

He's got a SATA cable in there, he might as well just buy a SATA HDD and add that in, it'll set itself up and be faster.

For the OP - Yes that hard drive will go in your PC.

He's got a SATA cable in there, he might as well just buy a SATA HDD and add that in, it'll set itself up and be faster.

Good point, you can add that in, a lot easier, and it will be quicker.

Yeah, i am looking for a secondary hard drive to store pictures, music, etc. Could i also use it to install games on?
And yes, i have a sata card plugged into my motherboard. If i bought a sata hd, would i just have to plug the sata cable into the hd and thats it? Would some sata card like this be ok? Also, would i need to buy an enclosure to cover the hd?

Thanks a lot!

Yea, just buy one plug it in and your good to go. Don't buy an enclosure, that'll just add to the heat that the harddrive creates.

I just have one last question... My sata card says it "supports hard-drives larger than 137gb." Does this mean that it only supports hard drives larger than, or could it support any? The hd i am thinking about getting is only 80gb. Thanks

Ok, Great! I don't know if the hard drive i got on ebay comes with screws to attach the hd to computer. Do i need screws? Or can i just rest it on the bottom of my case or on top of my other hd? If not, where can i just get a couple screws?

Thanks

You'll definitely want to secure the drive in the cage properly to give it good airflow and prevent it from being damaged. If you are still going to retain your old drive, find some new screws. Or if the old drive has all 4 screws, in a pinch you could take a couple from it to use.

For sure you are gonna want to secure the hdd. Do not put it on top of the other one or have it loose in the case.

You want to ensure proper airflow but also prevent the vibration of the hdd from rattling it around.

I finally received the hard drive today... So i put in my computer, fastened with screws, plugged in the sata cord and closed my pc all up. I turned it on and my hd wasn't detected. So after some googeling, i think i might need a power cable for the sata hd? I searched inside my computer but there is no sata power cord. And the hard drive didn't come with any cables. So what do i need to power the sata hd? My other hd is an IDE.
Thanks
