laptop power settings keep changing

Hi, I've got an AMD/XP Pro laptop and I swear the power settings have a mind of its own... I set it that the laptop never "turn off monitor," "turn off hard disk," and "system standby" and it will be fine and dandy for a few hours. but that won't last. the settings change back to default -- monitor turns off in 15 minutes, computer goes into standby in 30 minutes, etc.

anyone have any idea what may be causing this? and is there anything I can change in registry?

are you applying the settings and are you doing it through the control panel, power settings????

That's what's weird about this. The setting changes whenever, not necessarily after rebooting or hibernation:confused:

another thing that keeps changing:
under Power Options Properties - Advanced tap, there's "When I close the lid of my portable computer: Do nothing, or stand by"
this keeps changing as well.
