Looking for your Opinion on anti-virus s/w

My Norton internet security 2005 subscription runs out in a few days. I’ve seen people on forums that don’t care for Norton. Since it’s time to pay up, I’m looking for opinions on AV S/W. I’ve been pretty satisfied with Norton, but have never used anything else. And what about those free anti-virus programs?

I use Kaspersky, but for friends on a budget that don't want to pay, I'll install AVG. I never use internet security suites though, just the anti virus. I've also heard that the latest version of Norton Anti Virus isn't all that bad.

Every computer I have ever worked on actually benefited from uninstalling Norton. I would recommend AVG because it is easy to use and doesn't require a lot of knowledge. Avast is my pick but the skinned GUI is somewhat hard to navigate if you aren't familiar with it.

haha, i must say, i could not agree more with every thing you just said (except that i use NOD32)

To prevent any confusion, when he says "both" don't actually install both at the same time. Antivirus software will usually have conflicts with each other if you do this.

It really depends on your specs. If you have 2 gb or more ram and a dual core processor, it's kasperky for you. If it's lower, you should think about AVG.
Theese are just my recommendations.

Well I see no reason to change, been using Norton Internet since I had my first computer (5 years ago, by that time it was just Norton I think) and I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2008 for the same price of an account renewal on the 2005.

I suggest you go on with Norton :)

By the way I never had a virus stay more than 3 hours on my computer ;) Either Norton detected it or removed it.

Yeah, sorry i should've said that, thanks for clearing that up :)

I second that

Norton Is good if you have the hardware to back it up. As in a well performing machine. If you have a slower pc or a bunch of stuff on your startup then you would be much better off with nod32 or kas.

305,643 "Best anit-virus" threads and counting. lol But yeah AVG is my favorite one out of the free category.
