Is there any company that sells good laptops that i can customize in the 1000-1600 range. Laptops that are not as overpriced as dell-alienware or HP.

What exactly do u want to customize..?

Your best bet is to build to order online and get what u want as you wont really upgrade anything cept maybe ram, new hdd, dvd burner..etc

yeh everything but hdd and dvd stuff doesnt matter, ram if its 3gs i think i would be fine i would also like a 512MB GFX card

and its not that dell or hp is overpriced its just that there are usually some great companies that have some sweet deals on computers that save u alot of money.

Well any laptop u choose can have its hdd, dvd, ram...etc swapped...

I saw a sik HP the other day for 1399.99 Canadian,

dual core, 500gb hdd, dvd/bluray, 9000-series graphics, bluetooth, hdmi, esata,///

man there was a ton of things..

1000-1600

how do u swap RAM...on a laptop?

Flip laptop upside down...look around on underside..most have a panel with 1,2 or 3 screws. It may house only the ram, or also a modem, wifi card, bluetooth adapter...etc..

Each ram bay will have 2 clips on either side..pop those and the ram will raise from the bay..pull out and up gently.

..Some laptops..Dell's and Toshibas come to mind...have the ram hidden under the keyboard. The process is a bit more detailled but equally easy to perform.

Replacing/upgrading ram is hands-down the easiest upgrade you can do.

I have a dell latitude D505. I'm borrowing it from school :P and the ram is easy to access. You flip it over, and on the bottom there is 1 screw.

Dell and HP often offer GREAT deals if you look around online for a coupon. Their laptops are also highly customizable on their website.

Anyone else think that the XPS m1730 is overpriced? I know it's Dell vs Alienware (basically the same company), but for what it is, the prices are huge. You could probably build the desktop equivalent for about $800.
