Right just built new comp 1st one, quite happy with it:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)

System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: EP31-DS3L
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3582MB RAM
Gigabyte chassis GZ-X2
Geforce 8400 GS 512mb
Cost : £300

I'm all up and running, but was wondering are there any adjustments or things that i should do? I know u could do some overclocking (not experienced at all so wasnt going to) but are there any essential things to do to complete the new build? Thanks for your time:)

Plenty....
first check your bios see that everything checks out ok, partition your hard drive if you want its optional, update every new drivers you can find such as: bios, graphics card, motherboard, sound card, etc. etc. do a full system clean with Ccleaner and Reg...Reg... I can't remember the ****ing name of the program my brain hurts....

Yes,

  • Update drivers and bios
  • Update the OS
  • Installing need programs like anti virus and thinks like that.
  • Disable programs and disable things that don't need to be started up, upon start up, this is how - http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html

Hope this helps.

Oh god left computer on over night did a repair of my wireless connection and I got a Generic Win32 Error!
Anyway lol, i have updated a couple more driversand sorted out my startup. Just thinking have i placed my memory modules in the right way because it shows up at only 3.5GB when I have 2x 2GB. Cant remeber if I read somehwere that this is normal. Thanks
