Need help fast! :D

I thought that it was time to clean my computer of dust.
I opened the case unscrewed the cpu fan started cleaning it and put it
back in. Tried to start my computer, all things were working exept that my fan that i cleaned was on full speed the whole time and the PC started to freeze during boot. But it didn`t freeze at the same time everytime i tried to start it. It`s about 2 years old.

I`ve have had this problem before. But then and that was 1 year ago.
i didnt used it for six months and it worked. but i cant wait six months on that to happen.

My computer: (what i know of it)


3.06 Ghz (single core)
1 Gb ram (two 512 Mb ram)
Nvidia 8600GT card (512 Mb)

How/What did you clean? Dust from the fins, compressed air, water, etc? DId you re-apply thermal compound to the bast of the HSF (the part that touches the CPU)?
 
I cleaned the fins and i used compressed air on the thing under the fan but i didn`t
re apply thermal compound. Because it was on it.

I dont know so much about computers. But im gonna try to buy new thermal compound
and see if it works, and try to turn the pc on today.

yeah every time you take a heatsink off you must reapply thermal paste. dont go mad and put loads on just a small bit about the size of a grain of cooked rice over the core, if you can, clean the heatsink and CPU with an alcohol cleaner, the stuff they use when you have an injection.
 
But is the thermal paste the solution to my problem?
My computer freezes at certain points when its booting.

Not that im unsatisfied with your answer.:D

Yes, chances are extremely good that once you have new TP on there, you'll be fine.

But, I guess this sounds pretty stupid but.
Is there any other things i can use than paste? (that has the same effect)
And i can have it until i buy the paste? Just some improvising

Really, I'd just let it go until you get the real stuff. No sense in mucking anything up.

Seems stange that it happens during startup though.

When I had a p4 2.0ghz many moons ago the heatsink snapped off without me realising. It would run for near on half an hour before freezing/restarting etc..
 
Alright i bought the paste and i restarted the computer. and it actually started:D .
BUT when i restarted the computer again, guess what happened.
NTLDR IS MISSIN CTRL+ALT+DELETE TO RESTART:(. GODAMMIT
Any ideas?

Plz dont shorten it to TP bcuz i think "toilet paper" and then I can no longer keep my composure, XD

Oh sorry, I was laughing so hard that I didn't even answer, ok here goes.

When your fans start going full blast and your computer freezes then the first thing you should also look at is if your CPU is getting sufficient cooling. If you insufficiently (or didn't) re-apply thermal paste the most likely your CPU is not in full contact with the heatsink and there are heat pockets developing.

The most common paste used is Arctic Silver because of their great reputation. Radioshack should have Arctic Silver 5 in stock. It is made of %99 pure micronized silver which is highly conductive. There is no household alternative that would work like it does. When you do get it, use fingernail polish remover (acetone) to remove the thermal paste from both the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the CPU. Then clean both surfaces with rubbing alchol (%100 pure alcohol is preferred but I have used %75 and %92 with no ill effects). Then apply a small amount on both surfaces and mount your heatsink.
 
I have done that, but i get the NTLDR IS MISSING press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart
After i restarted when i got i booted up :(

oh sry, i didnt even read that, NTLDR errors are usually caused by a missing or corrupted system file.

First, try using a Windows CD and entering the recovery console. Run "chkdsk -r" from the recovery mode and see if that fixes it.
