Ok, so I'm making an orpg. It's going to basically have WoW's GUI, the job system of Final Fantasy V and have 2D graphics in the style of Dragon Warrior III.

I've been wondering what you think is a better style of fighting, turn-base (Final Fantasy) or real-time (Secret of Mana).

I've been using the real-time for a while now but I know most mmorpgs use the real-time system. So the turn-base would make the game a bit more unique.

real time fighting is a must for me... turn based just seems dumb... im gonna let you hit me, then im gonna hit you.... with real time you use acquired skills to better your chances of survival (ex. faster spell cast, quicker mouse movement, hot key memorization)

so turn based is like runescape right? At least the runescape from 3 yrs ago?

That sucked, go with the other base.

i prefer turn based RPGs. its more reliant on thinking and strategy rather than just mashing buttons. the one i cant stand is when battles randomly pop up whenever you are walking around. that always annoyed the hell out of me. make your enemies VISIBLE, please :D

WoW isnt Real time, it is time-based (a faster variant of turn-based). Diablo is "real-time". Most MMOs are time-based (EVE, EQ, WoW....) I hate WoW (and almost any other MMO) specifically because of its battle system (and the fact that they make the monsters at your level just as powerful as you so you end up having to fight only 1 or 2 at a time, I like cutting a swathe through my enemies (Diablo!!)

Go for a system like Secret of Mana, or even the "Tales" games (Tales of Symphonia for example)

This is really quite amazing. My friend said he liked turn-base so that makes the poll 50-50 o.O

Saying turn-based is misleading.
Turn-based normally means a game like Final Fantasy Tactics
FF7 had an ATB system which used a measurement of time before your next move but it is independent of who is doing something at that time (this makes it possible for 2-3 hits before the other person has a chance if your speed stat was high enough or using a spell like Haste)
Before FF7, im pretty sure it was turn-based but afterwards it used the ATB system or a variant of it.
WoW basically uses a version of the ATB system.
