Processor for Crysis!!!!

Hi Guys

In my recent thread i asked why my crysis wasnt running perfectly on ultra high because it should...

He said that i need a new processor

Can anyone suggest an amd processor that is equivalent to Intel's E6600?

Thanx a Load

Yeah, your brothers E6600 is better than your 5000 X2...

To be honest, you'd be better off OC'ing your current CPU than buying a new one. The other CPU's you could get are the 5600X2 and 6000X2, but they're just higher clocked versions of yours...

There's the Tri Cores, which are about £75, I think. I wouldn't even entertain looking at those!

Then, there's the AMD Quad Cores, the Peni, peh, pheoeoeo, You know the ones...

They'd be a pretty good upgrade, I guess.

I feel really dumb saying this but... how do i overclock it?

and would the 6000+ make it run on ultra high setting???

Through your BIOS. You raise the FSB and and if needed, increase the vCore. Obviously, there's more to it, but that's the general idea.

Nah, I seriously doubt it would.

75 punds sounds a little off to me, at that price you're right but I've seen those being sold at way better prices here in Australia (where prices on computer stuff are sometimes quite screwed in the head), not to mention that the shop where I looked them up ridiculously overprices some of their products ($90 for a pentium dual-core WTF?????).

Anyways, providing you can find those things at decent prices, I can't see why you would not go for a tri-core, those are generally clocked higher than Phenom Quads (well the ones I've seen are, anyways), so they would be better for gaming, and the extra core over you current dual-core will be an improvement. Tri-cores are specifically for people who want to upgrade but who can't afford a quad-core, they offer better efficiency and multitasking capabilities over current dual-core Athlons.

If you decide to get a tri-core, make sure that you get a B3 stepping or newer (the older steppings had a nasty bug that can cause lock-up under certain circumstances, and the fix can reduce the performance up to [sometimes even more than] 20% in games). Also, I would recommend you get the 2.4GHz version at least, as the extra clockspeed of the X2 5000+ partially makes up for the inceased efficiency of the Phenom architecture, so you won't notice any performance increase with a low-clocked tri-core unless you multitask.

I personally, however, would wait... your current CPU is decent (not great, but not bad either). If you really want to upgrade, look into the 3GHz+ Athlon X2s that come with 2MB(2x1) of L2 cache, extra clockspeed alone won't give as much extra performance gains as you'd want, or you could browse for the AMD tri-cores and see if you can find any 2.4GHz+ B3+ stepping CPUs at a decent price point (I'm no good at converting currencies, but about 65-70 pounds would probably be around the max I would pay). However, as I said, I would wait and save up for a good intel build or maybe wait for the new 45nm Phenoms, they are clocked way higher than current Phenoms and have numerous improvements implemented in silicon, so those things may actually turn out to be good...who knows. Probably all current AMD CPUs will struggle with Crysis, some like the 3.2GHz Athlons with 2MB cache may do the job, but for Crysis, considering the performance of current AMD CPUs, I would get an intel build or wait for AMD to come up with something better.

BTW, If you've read this far, you deserve a prize *hands over a chocolate cookie*

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3 Tri Core 8450 2.10GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

There's one for around £75...

Cookie, please?

well its been said before, crysis isnt too hard on processors, all things considered. the real problem is with memory and GFX. thats where your FPS really takes the hits.

It says 60.99, then 71.66 after VAT... what's a VAT anyways? Don't tell me it's something you HAVE to pay...?

I'm out of chocolate, but I baked some flavored with Cyanide just for you (it's an exotic indian spice if you were wondering)

Well, it's close to £75, you get my point. VAT - Value Added Tax. Yeah, we have to pay it. It's 17.5%. It's a total rip, you guys get it good!

Oh, Ok... Sure. I like the sound of them. Nom Nom Nom.

If u look at this guys specs http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=piLVpG-19L0 it shows that he has a 5800+ and his is looking pretty good, say, if i buy the 6000+ do u think that would just about do it

(NOTE: I dont wanna get anything more than an X2 becuz i would have to get a new mobo :? and i dont wanna do that)

PS: look at the video discription for his specs!

all i wnna know is whether the 6000+ will do for a cpu for crysis on ultra high setting, i dunt want to overclock or buy an intell :/

Yes or No

(sorry if sounded rude)

AM2+ is backward compatible with AM2, so you probably can stick a Phenom (tri-or quad-core) in your mobo; it may require a BIOS update, though. Some advanced powersaving features will be disabled, and you don't get the newest HyperTransport 3.0 (which you won't need anyways because no setup to date is powerful enough to saturate the HT link). You will lose only a marginal, insignificant amount of performance if even that, so you should be fine.

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?...ncat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1240#menu that's your mobo, correct? It appears to support heaps of the Phenoms... since Phenom quads are lower-end, you may actually find one pretty cheap. Again, if you get any Phenom, just make sure it's B3 stepping or newer.

my rig in my sig wit the 6000+ runs crysis 1440 x 900 all on very high an AA is set to 16Q an it runs fine even when its all at stock speeds
