Ubuntu 8.10 is being released Oct. 30. I just downloaded the beta version, and so far I like it. Included alot of updates. So far I haven't run into any issues.

brilliant... just brilliant  So once again they've just managed to get by with the only visual change for the better being the installder. They need a new head artist... the current guy is spending all his time on KDE. :P

Oh well, I just hope it runs well...

Oh, yeah, and what's with the wallpaper?!!! lol :P

Brown, brown, brown - to quote Jeremy Clarkson.

What is happening to Ubuntu now? It used to be such a light and airy distro to use but now Fedora looks more friendly! (TBH, vi looks nicer)

I'm a bit disappointed with the Ubuntu lot at the moment. The designs are getting ever more bizzare.

That's why I changed mine...

i don't really like ubuntu,i use ubuntu live when i'm repairing computers (silly windows), but i prefer kubuntu 7.10 (8 had a stupid clock, like, sizing was really retarded)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Ubuntu either... I was gonna switch to DreamLinux (I love that distro), but it won't connect to my network regardless of what I do, so I'm gonna switch back to Ubuntu... I'm downloading the beta now.

btw, does that icon on the desktop mean that Ubuntu finally has iPod support?

i like Ubuntu,il probably download the final when its out.

my preferred Linux os would be SUSE.

I'll try it out. Idk, i have lost a lot of faith in linux as of late. It just irrates me how much flash in linux SUCKS! Is it just me or does loading a flash app takes a ton of resources and often times crashes?

I'm upgrading the desktop as I type this...

Well it didn't work as smoothly as I had hoped. I'm reinstalling 8.04, and going to wait until the final release is ready.

Hi, I'm searching for the best linux for my GF's Viao PCG-k25 and couldn't resist to ask you how's your Viao's linux running, if I should be aware of any issues for this installation, and in general, any other bit of wisdom you could pass to a linux soon-to-be user.

Thanks in advance,

More and more I am liking Unix better each day. I think one of these days I will run a straight BSD machine.

Ubuntu is arguably the best distro out there because of the software available and how user friendly it is.

As far as support goes, just Google "*laptop's brand and model* +Ubuntu drivers". Or if you know what hardware your laptop has(eg. Nvidia video card) you can find the drivers in the package manager.
