Raid with partitions on the disks

if i want to have to HDD's in raid will i be able to make a partition on them to put my back-up files on, i want to have raid but as my 3 year old 200gb disk is dying then i want to take it out of my rig.

Unfortunately no, you will need to back everything up to an external hard drive and then reinstall windows. Thats what sucks about raid
