I have 2 windows folders in my C drive. one is called WINDOWS and one is Windows

I cant rename either of them, they are both the same size (2.59GB) and i know for a fact i have not always had two.

incase you dont beleive two folders have the same name:

anyone have any idea why this happened or how to fix it?

maybe you accidentally copy and pasted the folder. That could be an option but in that case i would not know what to do because its hard to delete a windows folder. :(

im trying to fix this without formatting, thats my last option

try to do follow steps; (it's may be works)

1. if you have win98 CD, boot with win98 support with CD-ROM
2. then you go to c:\ drive
3. then you delete your duplicate windows folder (use dos command)

try it

deleting one wont cause them both to delete will it? they both have the same name with different capital letters..

you try to get into WINDOWS or windows directory
then you check the contents and delete it (which is duplicated folder)
once you delete all files from the direcotry (in dos, if your folder not empty you can't rename folder)
you can use dos command to rename the folder
then you restart your PC, delete the renamed folder.

try it!!!!!!!!!

i used my linux OS to get to the C drive instead of DOS. i renamed the "Windows" folder and rebooted into windows, everything seems to be working fine. the renamed "Windows" folder also says "0 bytes". atleast now i have an extra 2.5GB on my C. thanks
