K so I'm getting a new CPU, gfx card, motherboard and ram and the guy who is gonna build my computer said that windows might need to be reinstalled but I don't have the disk (he doesnt have it either).

What are the chances of windows being needed to be reinstalled? I want my computer ready tomorrow :(

99.99% chance you'll need to reinstall Windows. After you build the rig, plug in your old HD with the Windows installation and try to boot into Windows. Doubt it will work, but worth a shot.

Surely the chance isn't that small...

Anyways I really hope it works or I will have to find a windows cd somewhere so I can reinstall it :/

Maybe not that small, but pretty low. You'll probably run into a bunch of driver and controller conflicts when you go to boot the OS. It's always better to reinstall after a new build, and even if the OS boots, you may run into Windows activation issues.

no it wont work as windows will be configured for your old computers hardware and even if it did work windows will start bitching at you. just go online or to a computer store and get a OEM copy of windows

ive asked some other people about it and they said they upgraded and didnt need to reinstall windows and it was all fine or you just have to reactivate by entering the code on the windows sticker on the site of ur pc

Like I said, try it out. If it works, let us know. If you successfully boot into Windows and run into activation problems, you can call Microsoft and they will probably reactivate the license.

Hello

It may may work for you, just give it a try.I upgraded my CPU, mobo, and graphic card, it work fine for me just uninstall your graphic drivers b4 upgrading video cards, i have vista and all i had to do is install the right drivers for the mobo, graphic card, and any thing else you see in device manager that needs the proper drivers, and did not have to reinstall the O/S
