OCing my 8 GB of ram

Ok, my current timing is 5 5 5 15. IK dnt know much about the timing but from what i read, its not that big of a benifit. I believe i can change the timeing in my bios.. I have evga fwi 750i...


Should I mess with it???

What's the speed of your RAM? For DDR2-1066 (533MHz) 5-5-5-15 is excellent, and even for DDR2-800 (400MHz) they're still good enough; for anything lower, they aren't too good.

BTW, how many sticks do you have? If you have 4 (or 8) sticks, don't except to be able to lower the timings too much.

I have 4 DDR2-800 running at 5 5 5 15... I can lowering the timing to 4 4 4 12 but dnt know if that would be any good for me.

Well you can try it, but for DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 is decent enough... you probably won't see any significant performance gains.

IIRC, you'll notice a 20% speed increase in your RAM. 5-5-5-15 latencies are more of "Value RAM".

Yes, the memory speed will increase by 20% (or more like the latency will decrease), but since the OP's got an LGA775 board he's got to have an Intel CPU (I'm a genius, no?). Intel CPUs (Core and Core2 series anyways) rely on their effective L2 cache subsystem for optimal memory performance; higher latencies won't impact the performance even remotely as much as they would impact AMD CPUs, and even if he had an AMD CPU the real-world performance gains would be substantial, and barely noticeable (if at all).
