Hey all,

I just finished re-formatting my sisters computer to windows xp pro, I went through the whole installation and it did not ask me to give a password for the main user. So I started it up and it says administrator and asks for my password, so i just hit enter, it says error, then I type admin, same problem same with administrator and same when I type in anything else. Is there any way I could get around this or a program I could use to get the password?

If you just finished reformatting the drive and seeing a brand new copy of Windows installed then you likely entered something or hit a key while entering a name for the adminstrator. You would have to type in that exact same thing and later see the password requirement removed. Otherwise you are now likely going to have to reinstall Windows all over to make sure nothing is accidently entered. oops!

Hello,

There are several CD images you can download and burn to a CD with which you can boot your machine and either recover or reset your Windows password.

Here is a link to one of them -

http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

Here is a link to a page which explains how to take advantage of a security hole in the Windows XP install to reset your password.

And lastly, here is another CD image you can use to Burn a bootable CD which will allow you to reset your password.
