Drive Problem

I want to be able to access one of my other drives. It has Vista on it, but I want to get some files off of it. I plug it in as a secondary drive, and try to go to Users and then my folders, but it says click Continue to view the folders, then another box pops up saying Continue or Cancel, and when I click Continue, nothing happens.

So I tried plugging the drive in by itself, and booting from it. During the Vista loading screen, right after the BIOS, it does a quick Blue Screen, and restarts..

Is it possible to view the files on the drive..?

Thanks.

that's a file security problem. Vista locks all the files off to other users then the owner.
head to the problematic folder then go properties - security tab - advanced - owner tab - edit. Change the owner to yourself there. If it doesn't work do a restart and try again.

I can access the Program Files fine, but when I go to Users - Derek, it says 0 Bytes..

Any ideas?
That sounds normal. Take ownership of the directory first. Depending on what version of windows you have you may need to boot into safe mode and use the Administrator account to do this.

Yeah, I tried what Viper had mentioned, but I didn't know what to do.. It was showing my name under full access, but I'm not sure if I had the same account name on the other drive.

I'll try going into safe mode.

Why was I getting a BSOD when trying to boot the drive by itself?

Thanks.

Was Vista installed on that motherboard? If not that's the likely cause. If you wipe out all the old drivers it may work.

what he meant was. Was the operating system installed on the hard drive while being in the rig your using now? Because if it wasn't it's pretty normal. The operating system uses hal's to communicate with the bios and such. And those are mobo specific. So if you change mobo's your os won't work anymore.
