Cannot Access Vista Files On XP (I've Tried Everything...)

By far the most annoying problem I've come accross in a long time now. I have a new computer running Windows Vista. This computer can access shared files from my XP perfectly, but I can't access the shared files on my Vista computer with my XP one.

This is driving me crazy, perhaps there's someone on this board who can give me the checklist sort of approach making vista sharing work?

If you need more information just ask away, I'll keep refreshing this thread from time to time daily and help you help me in any way possible LOL..

i'd be extremely grateful if anyone could solve this issue for me....you have no idea how annoying it is!

Its a bit of an obvious one but in the network and sharing centre in Vista you have enabled file sharing, and network visability and any other applicable one?

yes. sorry i should have said what i've done so far...

-enabled file sharing
-enabled network discovery
-made sure my network is set to private
-made sure both computers have same workgroup
-firewall is setup right...

I was in the same boat, to fix it, I went back to XP. Sorry I cant help, but your not alone. It kept telling me I have to make users to log in but it never would work.

Did you set your drive or folder to 'shared'? This is separate from the network settings, its done from the actual folder.

i think i might have to do the same thing...unfortunately

yup, i've done pretty much all that i've read up on...i've googled this topic and read many other threads with people asking the same question.:(

All i can reccommend is either upgrading or downgrading ( or waiting ) i know microsoft are working on a fix for this, but in the mean time yes a very annoying problem, Its all compatibility issues. XP was not made with view of vista, but vista was made from XP so thats why it works one way only :)

I'm having a similar problem, except I have 2 XP and 2 Vista machines on the network. The weird thing is, one of the Vista machines works just fine, but I just added my desktop to the network and I can access files on any computer, but none of them can access my files:confused: It's getting annoying, I've searched google and tried many fixes, so far to no avail
