Good Deal?

Would you be interested in doing a custom build? You might be able to get a better system for less than that, and you will of course have a much bigger selection. That system will most likely max Bioshock and Fallout 3, but I doubt it would be able to do that for much longer. I was just playing Bioshock maxed in DX10 and I got a steady 60. In terms of GPU and CPU, my computer is about the same as the one linked. If you wanted it to last 2 years you might want to look into the high Radeon 4000 series or GTX 200 series. Processor could also be a quad, but that's just a matter of preference.

Total: $1015 it is a bit over, but you could easily choose a cheaper case or motherboard. The Antec 900 has good cooling, but you could still get a nice case for around $60. And the motherboard could be cheaper.

Why do I want vista home PREMIUM instead of BASIC? Also, doesn't Vista have a lot of compatibility issues? Otherwise this looks great.. I have 2TB External HD so I was able to cut the price down by getting the 350GB rather than the 500GB too.

Damn.. the price for the desktop was a good 835.. but as soon as I got to the shipping it spiked up to about 1,000! So far the newegg deal I have is still a little better in terms of value..

Would I have to put everything together? Buy the wirings and whatnot?

it should come with all the wires and actually its pretty easy to put a computer together, its like a puzzle, most wires only fit into other slots, with some exceptions, but you just have to kinda watch what your doing and think about for a second, you should be fine if you want to put it together, plus there tons of how to videos on youtube and tutorials on here if you get lost.

Well it's definitely cheaper, but it's nowhere near as good as the custom build I, or anyone else for that matter, made. You could probably bring the cost of my build down $150 by getting a cheaper case and motherboard. The 9600GT would probably be okay for maybe another year. The GTX 260 is already maxing games like Crysis. Plus the custom build is a quad, the other is a dual. The prebuilt one is cheaper, but I would think the custom one is a much "better deal."

Most software/games out right now don't really support quad yet. Think I should get prepared for it? My friends are saying Quad would be the better choise but because they aren't developng anything that really utilizes it, right now the core 2 duo is the best choice. Of course, they're no experts.

What is the mother board important for? (I know, real newbie question, but i've never had to buy one)

the motherboard is like the nerve system of a computer. it has cable connections and slot connections and chipsets and in short it was what lets all components communicate the motherboard and other components attached to it..... if you don't have a motherboard, you don't have a computer.
