Antec SmartPower 450

So my old, decrepit system took a dump on me so i will be building a quick replacement but I am looking to save money. I was wondering if my ANTEC Smart Power 450 will suffice with a new build. Here are the specs for it: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=smartpower_450

I won't be using HIGH performance hardware. Most likely AMD Athlon X2 5200+ and a mid range graphics card. So place let me know if this will still get the job done. Thanks.

The Neo 430w model would also meet the requirements while not seeing the low price. http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=antec_neo.html

The selection at the vendor there is quite limited however. For any heavy gaming, ocing, or adding in additional devices like tv tuner/capture cards you would then want to look at a little more power or simply choosing a different brand like Corsair, FSP, Zalman, Cooler Master in that wattage range. But then the price climbs to where you normally see them.

I know that for heavier use i would need more. This is just the power supply that was in my Antec Sonata II case. I am looking to use it on another case to save money. I was just curious how well it would perform with more updated hardware, but not extremely heavy use(just moderate gaming).

It would function just as would in the Antec case for moderate use. The newer cpus don't draw on the supply like the older Socket A and P4 designs did so that is no problem. With a mid range video card you wouldn't be plugging the additional 4 or 6 wire feed in either like seen with high end models.

Really depends on what video card you use. Think that supply only has a total of 25 amps. on the 12V rails. Even though it has one rail with 15 amps and one 17 amps you dont just add them together, thats just the max any one rail can pull.

You should be fine. Unless your running 4 DVD drives and 4 harddrives and 12 case fans, got your PCI slots filled up and neon lights:D

You'll be alright with that supply. If you were pushing the envelope a little as you already know then a heftier supply would be a thought. But for budget to average use and simply some occasional gaming you shouldn't any problems.
