Deciding an OS

Q: XP v.s. Vista v.s. Linux? Which is better for a gaming? Why?

Q: What is the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit?

Q: What is the difference between SP1 v.s. SP2?

Q: How does this look?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116483

1. I'd say XP > Linux > Vista gaming wise. It's kind of a toss up between XP and Linux.

2. No idea about the 32bit and 64bit thing,

3. SPs are just patches from Microsoft

4. It looks like the install disc for Vista 64bit

Oh whoops, when I said how does this look I meant is this a good deal. It says in the reviews that the OS doesn't support AERO or DirectSound3D. Are those things important for gaming?

Actually nvm. Direct sound doesn't matter to me and i'll google Aero.

But why is vista the worst for gaming?

Q:For gaming, Vista would be the best because dx10. XP would come second, linux 3rd.

Q: Basically, how much RAM you can put onto your computer.

Q: The SP's are service packs released by microsoft to fix major and minor bu8gs, glitches, and security problems in the windows operating Environment. SP2 is updated more than sp1, and sp3 is more updated than all of them.

Q: No, this is a horrible deal. You do not want to get Vista Home basic, it is highly recommended that you get Windows Vista Home Premium atleast.

Why Vista for gaming? You need at least 1GB more RAM and even then, some games won't run.

Premium is 300 dollars on newegg.. =(

Why is premium so much better?

That's more than any piece of hardware I have!

That where it gets complicated. All of the latest games run on Vista. Some older ones, may not. If you have a dx10 enabled game, it will look bette ron vista, because Vista is the only OS that supports dirextX10"

Oh nice. Yea, I didn't find that one. I think it was because I was trying to find a 64 bit one. I don't care much for interface but since the price difference is so small I think i'll just get this. But just before I do.. the final question!

Difference between 32 and 64bit for gaming!

You can game with Linux, but for a gaming computer Windows is the way to go, preferrably Vista (DX10).

The major difference between 64bit and 32bit to the end user is the fact that 64-bit OS can address more than 4GB of RAM.

And "SP" simply means Service Pack, they're sort of like massive bundles of updates for your computer. In practice there's no difference, earlier or later you'll have to update to newest SP anyways (and it's usually only a good thing).

x64 bit, it will utilize the x64 processors much more smoother and faster than the x32. I run windows x64 xp pro. If it wasn't for my spyware software and my web cam, I would be in it all the time. I have my machine duel boot between x64 and x32 bit. 32 bit has the 3.5 gb barrier in the memory also. If you want to upgrade past 4gb of ram, then get the x64 bit OS. I have 6gb of ram in my machine, because I do a lot of photo and video editing. And so far, I have not had any trouble with playing games on it. But, make sure you have all drivers for your machine before you buy it. Windows xp pro x64 especially.
