Building My First Computer...

So my (almost) three year old computer finally died a couple weeks ago, and I need to buy another one. I'm positive I can build one cheaper than I could buy one and I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing, sort of. My budget is around $900. I just want to know if everything I've selected will work properly together and whether or not anyone out there has any suggestions. I will be using the computer for the typical word processing, internet surfing, and other remedial tasks but I also enjoy playing video games and would like my new computer to do this fairly well though I know the limitations of an average budget. I'm not expecting out-of-this world performance, but it would be nice to be able to at least play the latest games on this computer for the next couple years.

To start I had a few basic questions.
1. Which would be better for my needs, quad-core or duo-core. I'm not big into video editing or anything like that so I'm wondering if a faster duo-core would be better?
2. Which OS should I use? If I could find my copy of XP this would be easier, but since I can't, should I get XP again or upgrade to Vista?

Anyway, here is what I have so far...

The only problem I can really see is that your graphics card may not fit into that case, although I'm not 100% certain on that. Everything looks like it should be compatible.

I have the same dvd/cd burner is great fast burning no problem, great price what else can u ask for.

or you could even go with linux, i just installed it, cheapest os ever it was free!!!
works awesome
only bad thing is its a pain to install programs on

I agree as far as the 4850 is concerned, the case is kinda cheap and I would recommend either Gigabyte or Asus for motherboards.
