Graphics Card Compatibility

Hey everyone,

I've been having lots of problems with my Nividia 6600gt graphics card has I think everyone has. So I’m very keen on upgrading cards especially with all these new high demanding games coming out. Though I’m not sure about what cards are compatible with my pc. I'm hoping to run high demanding games for the future but nothing too expensive.

If someone could please suggest a good graphics card for my system or help me in giving me an understanding of my compatibles

Thankyou

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
System Manufacturer: GBT___
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1024MB RAM

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 128.0 MB

P.S: How to you see how much power supply you have?

what kind of motherboard are you using? even if you have a good graphic card, the processor may bottleneck it (correct me if im wrong). as for the power supply, im not sure if you can check that in windows but for me, i look on the power supply unit itself. you should see a sticker, either inside or outside.

Need to know what motherboard you use. That or its pointless to ask, if you can run PCI-E 2.0 get a 4870 if you have the money. Or get a 9600gt if its 1.0
If you don't have PCI-E your pretty much going to want to upgrade your motherboard. AGP cards aren't very powerful. These are the things to consider when wanting to upgrade. Also you are most likely going to need a bigger power supply.

Its going to cost some bit of money to take an old system and either trash it and build a new one or to upgrade it. Most the time if the system is to old its not worth upgrading. Post detailed specs of the computer.

Why don't you find the exact model of your computer (if it's a pre-built OEM) so that you can look up the specs? Or at least so we can...hard to answer this question without knowing what mobo you have.
