Hey everyone ^_^

I'm thinking of making my own gaming comp cause i'm sick of the piece of crap sitting on my desk.

I've got my eye on a Benq 24" and i just want an oppinion on this monitor?

I'm planning on having 2 monitors going at once, 1 for a game and the other for a movie or talking on an instant messenger at the same time.

Also i'm baffled with what video card brand to go with when it comes to working out what's best for me.

Pretty much what i want in my new comp is 2x crossfire/sli ready 256mb cards. I'm also thinking about maybe having 2x 512mb instead of the 256mb cards for watching blue-ray dvds and such. What's a minimum req for blue-ray movies so it'll run smooth?

Ah ok.

*sighs* I can't buy from newegg :( they don't sip to australia >.<

I'll see how much i can get that card for from the place i order from... *checks* ugh $420 bucks :(
 
Because i can multitask. I play wow while watching movies...for me i don't need much concentration for playing wow while questing and such. It's just gettin a little silly me playing wow and watching a movie at the same time currently on the same screen :D

Sooo i want to be able to play rpgs', rts' and fps' with fairly good graphics and quite good resolution and frame per second rates.

What's the benafit of a GDDR3 video card over a DDR2 one?

Oh and my budget is around the $2000 mark (australian)

You can't hardly buy DDR2 anymore. If you do, performance would be horrid compared to the newer ones. The main thing is the bandwidth. For higher resolutions more information is pushed and DDR2 just isn't fast enough to even keep up today. My card has DDR5, so DDR2 is pretty far behind...
 
Ah ok juuuuust checkin ;)

So what would be a really good card these days? and when would the best time to buy be? should i wait a couple months for the release of the intel X58 chipset motherboards?

The best bang for your buck is the 4870 IMO, if you can't afford it go for the 4850. The 4870 is $250 USD which is faster and cheaper than the nvidia GTX260. If you want to go all out, go for a GTX280.

As far as a good buying time, I'm not sure. I wouldn't imagine that the release of the X58's would have an effect on GPU prices, but I could be wrong..
