Router connects to network, no internet...

I have a D-Link DIR-625 i got a hold of, i want to hook it up to make sure it works. I have a linksys router now, though when i plug the d-link in, it connects to my network and all the computers see it. But i get no internet. All the cables are hooked up right, is there an IP setting some were or something i need to change? I just want to be sure it works, then plug my linksys back up.
 
you need to plug it in to one of the ports lables 1-4. not the interent port.

So from your linksys, it goes into port one of the netgear. This makes it into more of a wireless switch. That should work
 
Its all hooked up right, from my modem to my router... Everything shows up on the network, just no internet. :(
 
haha. so let me just make sure im on the same page. you disconnected your linksys temp and have the dlink in place of it. you get dhcp and all but you dont get interent. is this correct

Two things to try, DNS could be the issue, make sure there aren't static DNS servers setup on the router setup (Could be other DNS issues as well). Also you may need to spoof the MAC address. Let us know if you've checked these yet, if not I'll try and explain or find a good link.

Thanks, I'll try it tomorrow. I'm not sure how, but i can figure it out. Networking has never been my cup of tea, but i haven't messed with much of it. :(
 
huh. one way to see if it is dns is to ping an ip like 4.2.2.2. If you get a reply then your good. if you cant ping google.com then it will be dns. else, i dont know what it would be

Thanks, its late now. I'm going to have another go at it tomarrow, i just want to make sure it works right before selling it. lol.

I had a NetGear router thats NAT stop working before, that could explain your situation. Its got to be either DNS or NAT(I think :) ).

I forgot about that, 4.2.2.2 is an easy free public DNS service, very nice tool for troubleshooting small networks.

I'm having the same problem. My pcs, desktop and laptop show the connection is good and the signal strong, but no internet. Where as before, it was working fine on my laptop. I'm going to try that too. I thought maybe it was my router because I plugged my main laptop directly into the wireless router and couldn't get the internet. I plugged it back into the wired router and BINGO!! internet again.
 
I would say more, i haven't had time to mess with it anymore because of work. But whenever i figure it out, I'll let you know.
