Blu-Ray Trouble.

Hi Guys, got a problem I was hoping you could help me with.

I just bought a Blu-Ray Drive, and am attempting to watch "Independence Day." However, the video is choppy, and unwatchable. I have a custom computer with the following components.

O/S: Windows Vista Home Premium
Motherboard: ASUS P5N-SLI
Processor: 3.0 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 3 GB DDR2
Video Card: Radeon X1650
Hard Drive: 500 GB SATA Drive.
Drive: LG's GGC-H20L "Super Multi Blue"
Power Supply: Speed 600-ATX (600 W max)
Playback Software: Cyberlink PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra

I also have a bunch of extra stuff like 2 extra DVD ROMs a network card, a USB/Firewire card, floppy drive etc.

Cyberlinks BD Advisor says that my system is capable of playing Blu-Ray discs, but the playback says otherwise.

So I basically have 3 Questions.

1. Does anybody see anything in my computer, that would cause Blu-Ray playback to suffer? ie. something that is not powerful enough

2. Is there anything that i can do in my system that would speed it up and play Blu-Rays smoothly?

3. would setting my power supply to 230V instead of 115V help my system run better, or would it just cause damage to it?

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

1. I think the graphics card is struggling myself, Blu-Ray is fairly demanding I think;

2. A better GFX card would help;

3. Setting it to 230V will see your system die, that's the input voltage and in the States it's 110V (230V is definately Europe and some other places).

Ya, I bet your GPU is what's causing issues as Pablo said. I'd recommend at least a 3-series card or better as the rest of your system is more than enough for BR playing.

Well decoding software can vary performance-wise.
PowerDVD, as I've read, has performance issues when playing Blu-Ray so it requires a faster computer to make up for the software decoder.
Your computer is plenty powerful enough to watch the HD content, Media Player Classic has a work-around that allows you to play Blu-Ray and they have tested it on a comp slower than yours with no stuttering.
Try downloading the free trial of PowerDVD 8, possibly the BR support has been updated and streamlined to provide better performance.

Thanks guys. I just bought a new video card, A BFG 9800 series, and it works fantastic, super smoothe Blu-Ray playback. Hellboy never looked so good :D
