RAM and Vista issues

I had 1gb of RAM on my computer (2.4htz proc) and checked my windows vista performance thing which said my RAM was my worst part at 3.4. This led me to purchase x2 1gb pc2700 dde memory ram ddr333 333mhz. On installation in bios it says my available memory is 3072 (3 gig) and on the system information it says I have 3 gig of ram...BUT after i refreshed my performance information my RAM was still rated at 3.4. Its clearly installed and i'm pretty sure its running faster...but i'm concerned that somethings up. I understand that these ratings are of computers when vista first came out and i'm unsure whether it just cant understand 3ram. I know a bit about computers but im definitely not massively savvy. Any help would be appreciated massively!!!

Just because you have more RAM doesnt mean a higher score, if you read it says 'Memory operations per second' and you having 333MHz RAM well.. not that fast, for instanc:

I have 2GB DDR2 800MHz running in dual channel and get a rating of 5.9 simply because its fast memory.

It's really 400MHz, it's only effective 800MHz because it's dual-data-rate RAM. Not picking on you or anything, just pointing out 'coz it may be a little confusing to compare 333MHz and 800MHz RAM, when it's really 333MHz & 400MHz or 667MTs & 800MTs.

Yes, but you're forgetting that that double data rate also applies to the DDR 333 RAM. So it's actually comparing 166MHz to 400MHz.

DDR SDRAM gives a transfer rate of (memory bus clock rate) × 2 (for dual rate) × 64 (number of bits transferred) / 8 (number of bits/byte). Thus with a bus frequency of 166 MHz, DDR SDRAM gives a maximum transfer rate of 2700 MB/s. That's also why it's called DDR 333 is PC-2700.

well sorry if I was wrong but Im just making the point that adding more memory wont really raise the Vista score

Yea... I forgot he was using ye olde DDR RAM. Since there are no DDR2 modules slower than pc3200 (200MHz/400MTs) I though the was referring to the actual clockspeed...
