Memory questions

1. Are there currently other types of memory being used or is DDR Ram the only Ram being used?

2. If so, what other types of memory are being used?

3. What type of memory was being used before DDR?

4. What type of memory was being used before that one, and so on?

A quick look at what Memory Ten http://www.memoryx.net/generic-memory.html carries alone will show laptop So-Dimm 200 pin DDR and DDR2 memory as well as now seeing DDR3 available as well as DDR, DDR2, DDR3 memory for desktops. Prior to DDR 184pin desktop memory you would see simms being 168pin or SDram Single inline memory module and Syncronized Dynamic ram.

The vendor mentioned above also carries 30 and 72pin simms then going forward to PC100 and PC133 memory that was common on systems during the late 90s. The theory for memory was introduced in the form of punch cards with each seeing a different combination of holes punched through as a form of binary expression then. Some 30yrs. later you typically large mainframe computers with large reels of magnetic tape where an operator manually typed in the programming code in order to see a program loaded into the "tiny" amount of less then ram available.

Neon lamps seemed to have followed the punch cards still in use later to see DEC introduce the magnetic memory core having just been proceeded by the use of capacitors of some type not specified there. The semiconductor didn't come into play until the late 1960s seeing the early form of DRam memory.

Another type of memory that actually sees a super high price by the current standards is RIMM memory that at one time was used for early gaming pcs due to the high cost and the need to a matching pair in order to work. You can't run just one alone.

DDR2 SDRAM or double-data-rate two synchronous dynamic random access memory
DDR3 SDRAM or double-data-rate three synchronous dynamic random access memory

I suppose you don't know what RIMMs are? Rambus inline memory module with a big difference when going to use those since you can't any RIMM slots empty as well as needing to see those installed in pairs. For any empty slots you would need to those populated with an emulator substitute.

Kinda funny 2 or 3 weeks ago you didnt even know how DDR/2 worked. How was it you said - DDR2 800 is running at 400mhz. plus Dual Channel so 400X2=800. One of the funniest things you have said, well maybe not the funniest but up there in the one of the thousands of funny things you have claimed.
