Help configuring new dell laptop

I am receiving a new Dell INSPIRON 1525 laptop for Christmas (it is going to be a Dell so please don't discuss brand issues). I need help knowing how it should be configured. I am a computer novice. I need the computer for word processing and internet usage. Any help you can give regarding memory, hard drive, etc... would be much appreciated. My computer guy told me that I only needed 2 gb of memory and 320 gb hard drive with Vista Home Premium. We can't afford to overspend, but I want to get a computer that will function well for the long haul. Can you give me opinions on what I should get?

Thank you!!!:D

Get at least 3gb of memory cause vista will take at least 1gb off the top for itself. A 250-320 gb hard drive will suffice for most people. Also make sure you get a decent processor, like 2 ghz either AMD or Intel but preferrably Intel.

he is right about the ram situation you can run a laptop with 2 gigs and will will still be very fast but it will also lagg alot opening big apps
but when he said preferrably intel, hes wrong its all about prefrence

I would say that AMD is faster because it processes data differntly, but its how ever you wana look at it, most people will say that AMD is for gamming intell is for editing pictures and other applications

A Core 2 Duo processor will always outperform an AMD processor with the same GHz.

And 2GB is just fine for Vista. If you're doing basic computer stuff you won't need any more
