The Benefits of 1066?

What are the benefits of 1066 DDR2 vs. 800 DDR2? My motherboard says it is compatible with 1066, but i'm pretty sure 800 works as well. I will be using a Phenom with the AM2+ socket, so the 1066 will work, but is there really that much of a speed boost to where the extra $25-$40 is worth it?

Thanks.

Generally here when planning out a new build I go for the fastest speed supported as a rule for a stock system with no ocing involved. That as well as one of the top model cpus.

Presently 2gb of PC6400 memory on here seems to be working well while being the fastest for this board while others still tend with 800 even on one that takes 1066 memory like the board you have. Often however they are looking at which cpu OCs the best for the board they are running however.

Really depends, some 800 is just the same as 667 sticks. Instead of running 1.8V its at 2.0 or 2.1V. If you can get 1066 for close to the same price as 800 go for it. Just look for the ones that run on lower voltage.

The low prices being seen on memory were something I was hoping to see as well. The better brands for 1066 however like Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, Patriot, or others seen at newegg presently will still tend to see the 2v+ however.

lol i can tell stranglehold had to use some restraint as seen here while in other threads presently others will tend to see him not however

I don't think it's worth it, not at all. If you really wanted, you could OC some 800Mhz RAM to 1066Mhz, easy! Save yourself the money. You won't notice a difference in speed either, unless you're doing some benchmarking.

I'm sorry. Did i say something that requires patience?

It was nothing you said but simply not seeing the highly immature adolescent slam remarks coming out of some here while other threads have been totally trashed due to the total lack of respect shown by certain unspecified persons. The person that starts the thread often never has the opportunity to make a second post and simply goes elsewhere as a result.

Ok. I just wanted to make sure i hadn't said anything that offended anyone. I realize i've been asking many questions, but there are some things about computers i would really like to know. And, so far, this forum has been really great about answering all my questions :-D

Nothing you did or asked offended anyone. Why would it? A forum like CF is the place for asking questions to start with. Go ahead and ask away even if you aren't sure that they won't sound a little? at times. You have to start somewhere.
