Wireless Disconnecting

Greetings, :)

Since we moved into our new house I have been getting disconnected while surfing the Internet and playing online games. It is always happening at bad times! I am getting very upset with this issue. I have contacted SMC, but they don't seem to wanna help. I sent an email weeks ago and still haven't gotten any response back.

I have a SMCWBR14T-G and I do not know what kind of adapter I have because I was not the one who installed it.

How can I fix this issue? I do a lot of schoolwork and gaming on this computer and I can't really do either if I keep getting disconnected. Please help! :(

Is your signal strength low? Are there a lot of other networks in your area. You might try changing the channel on your access point, see if that helps you out any.

My signal strength says "Excellent". Which I assume is better than good? I am on a Unsecured wireless network, is that a good thing? Should I switch over to a Security-Enabled wireless network?

I tried connecting to a Security-Enabled wireless network and I was told I needed a password to connect to it. I don't know the password and I keep getting disconnected. I am currently connected to SMC's network since it's got excellent signal strength.

This is really getting on my nerves.

if the security-enabled network is not your own DO NOT connect to it. That would be breaking the law.

Have you tried updating the drivers of the wireless adaptor that is connected to your pc?

What if your car broke down outside of a random locked wifi spot and your phone didnt work, and their were no phones, and the only thing you could do is IM someone to help you out :)?

Well, its still illigal and wouldnt you go to the owner and ask to use it first? or a phone?

most likely the idiot owner got upset with the speeds and decided a reboot would fix the problem.

another reason would be other users in your complex are using it to p2p causing the random boots.

and yes that's stealing. if you're a religious person then you've sinned.
