Might upgrade to E8400

yeah dannys right, ahh well looks like the Quad has won my heart :P

Danny this is the cheapest ive seen it...or do you know anywhere else cheaper?

http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?...GHz+1066MHz++8MB+Cache,+9x+Multiplier,+Retail

this is the good one right? SLACR - GO????

i see thats the retail version though with box and heatsink......well i dont need all that cant i just buy teh processor like OEM? without the fan and fancy box?

Overclockers may be a little cheaper? Man, It's gone up in price since I bought mine... that sucks. You could get the OEM version if you had a HSF and stuff ready for it.

No QX9770 and Q6600 don't have the same amount of cache

QX9770 has stock speed of 3.2GHz

QX9770 has better performance clock for clock

My bad, it has 4MB more Cache.

Alright then, 3.2Ghz, OC a Q6600 to 3.2Ghz and you're there. You aren't going to see that much difference, if any.

Overclockers are a litle more expensive, however i find that the delivery is alot cheaper than Ebuyers.

i cant seem to fidn an OEM version??

ohh and that other processor your talking about? 12Mb cache   i thought the Q6600 having 8 was alot lol

okay i registred with Scan....with Vat + carriage comes to £154.91

as for Overclockers with Vat + carriage comes to £157.43

Not realy a huge saving but its all something, anyway i remember when i ordred my ram off Overclockers i was waiting 4 days lol so i think il get it from Scan.

im too late too  i was gonna say that i just got an E8400 and overclocked it to 3.7ghz on the stock cooler and voltage, and scored a 13 second 1m superpi time...

thats not to say that the Q6600 isnt going to be fast though! lol

Aha!

Hey! Your E6300 is a bottleneck?...... (I haven't read much of this thread yet) but what clocks is your chip at, I have a E2200 & 3G and I also have a bottleneck.

Meh & the quad price, they were only £117 a few weeks ago! Ever since i7 came out theyve shot up 40 or so quid!

Oh and also, if you want a Q6600, but 45nm, you seen the Q8200? :)

unfortunately the Q8200 see's a lower cache, lower multiplier and higher FSB, which all counts against it. i dont know about all motherboards, but mine only supports full multipliers, not the 7.5 that normally runs the Q8200. so at a multi of 7, you won't get far into overclocking, i think a 1600mhz fsb would only be about 3ghz or less...

it was a very hard choice believe me because i heard so much good about the E8400 but like i said i would rather have a Q6600 at 3.4Ghz and have 4 cores and 8mb cache than have a E8400 at 3.7 and have only two cores and have 2mb less cache than the Q6600.

Yup the E6300 started failing me on GRID with lag spikes and overall i just thought it was time for a upgrade.

yeah danny told me they put the damn price up but if you realy want it then they know you,ll pay up ;)

Hmm didnt know about the Q8200,but still its got 2mb less cache than the Q6600 but i suppose it been 45nm makes up for that.

not to fussy to be honest,so far the QUAD has impressed me alot and thats at stock settings so hell knows what its going to be like at say 3.4-3.6Ghz :D

Yeah it would be a hard choice. You have alot of people going from a quad to a E8400 and saying its the best upgrade they have ever done... it it also goes the other way around as well. :P

But for a E8400 OC'ed to 4.0ghz, it also takes a strong motherboard and ram to handle the 24/7 FSB. Mines at 445x9, i was shooting for 4.3Ghz stable last week, but i just can't hit the sweet spot on the ram or motherboard to get it stable. But yet, i can bench 3dmark at 4.6ghz... go figure. lol.

You better get to overclocking that thing! ASAP! It took forever to get danny to do it, now its your turn! :P

hehe yeah im definatly going to be overclocking it,thats why i purchased my new 800mhz ram to replace the 667 ones i had in.

im going to wait until my AS5 burns in though first,i wasnt realy impressed with my temps at first so il see how they are next week or so if not i might try MX-2
