Wireless network problem

I have a weird wireless network problem that I cant figure out an answer to, wonder if you guys can help :D

When I turn on my pc it will automatically connect to my wireless network, but sometimes it either wont connect or will have be "limited or no connectivity" and give me a weird IP address.

I then have to manually enter the details into the configuration:
IPSetup.jpg

other times it will connect fine with the IP 192.168.1.101 and I will have no problem.

This also affects CoD4, when I Have to manually enter the details it takes ages to load, but when I dont it will load instantly, I know there is something about it has to find an internet connection or something, but its strange.

this isnt a major problem, but if anyone could help it would be awesome!

(I have already tried moving my wireless card to a different slot!)

Thanks!

Dave.

Alright, I see one issue. Why is your DNS address the default gateway?
DNS is from your ISP not your router(unless you have it setup), to find that out type in Ipconfig in "cmd"(command prompt)
I really don't see why it wont connect automatically(unless DHCP is disabled). Check your router settings, and if it continues try to set-set it. If that doesn't work something might be bad on it.

it wont connect to the internet properly if i dont add the router IP into the Default DNS.

DHCP is enabled on the router and all my housemates can connect without a problem =/

Ahh ok, either way thats odd. I use the one my ISP provides just to make it easier. Maybe try a different static address? This is a tuffy.

By weird IP address what do you mean? Can I get an example?

Check this out it may help. Could be encryption if you have it.

looks like the router doesnt always give my pc a valid IP address looking at the site... like 169.254.x.x

hmm..

Thats a class B address most home routers should be giving you a Class C, sounds like someone elses gear may be giving you an IP. Reset it and see what happens thats all I can think of.

Is there a neighbour or business close that runs wireless, because I just completed my CISCO skills test that accompanies the course, while doing the skills test someone else was also doing the skills test. The router he set up was on channel 6 and so was mine, so i had the same problem, where the IP address was weird and it connectivity wasn't consistent. But when i changed the channel the problem was fixed. What router are you using?

OK, just get it to automatically obtain an IP address... i ahve sometimes have the same problem with the wireless at home... sometimes just leaving it alone fixes it, rebooting the laptop.... rebooting the wireless box sometimes fixes it.

So, maybe try that.....

it is meant to get a IP address automattically, but it gets annoying having to restart the PC until it works...
I cant restart the router as I wish cause I'd annoy my housemates!

that is an interesting point! It is a linksys WRT54G2+. There are about 5 other networks in my area. I didnt think about this, I have spent a lot of time configuring my home router to avoid other networks as well! Ill have to find out what channel the other routers are running on, mine is currently on 6.

Yes I just finished Cisco 3 and you need to be ch1 ch6 to prevent overlap.

Try 11 or something. If you want to know what there running, you could download cain and able. Its a sick little program that does alot of network security stuff. You just select your card and it will show you all the networks including the ones not showing there SSID. Shows channel and other things about it.
