Help setting up OE pop

Hello all I'm really new to this forum. 1st post.
I hope someone can help me.

Firstly my computer runs Windows XP.

I have a Gmail (email) account and I've tried to set up Outlook Express to receive my male there.

I have been through Gmail's instructions on how to use Pop3 for mail forwarding and followed their instructions to the letter.

I have also followed their instructions on how to configure my email client (Microsoft OE 2000). I have checked and re-checked their instructions to make sure I have EVERYTHING set right and it seems I do. (to the best of my knowledge)

As it is... I can send emails from OE but cannot receive emails from my Gmail account?

I've spent hours trying to achieve this with no luck and massive frustration.
Can anyone help please?

for your POP/SMTP settings, what do you have listed?

have you tried using mail.gmail.com instead of pop?

Incoming Mail (POP3) - pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) - smtp.gmail.com
Checked - My server requires authentication

Server Port numbers
Outgoing mail (SMTP) - 465
Incoming mail (POP3) - 995
Checked on both - Myserver requires secure connection (SSL)

Aggghhhhh!!!!!

Thanks for the response and I gave it a go but no it didn't work?
I can send mail alright but receiving it via SMTP is the issue. I simply can't receive mail into OE (Version 6).

Any other ideas?

Ooops

I meant that it was the POP connection is the problem (incoming mail) and changing it to mail.gmail.com didn't work.

As you can see I'm not very computer savvy.
