Can my Pimped out Laptop use XP still?

I'm tired of Windows Vista and it messes up every program I have and is just a general p.o.s. in general. I have a pretty good laptop but not sure if Windows XP can support all of my specs since that's the only reason I've been staying with Vista but never bothered to ask anyone.

Laptop specs:

Windows Vista 32 bit
Core Duo T9300 2.50 GHZ Processor
4.0 Gigs of RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

I'm really not too literate with computers so yeah. Do you think I can run Windows XP without gimping my expensive laptop? I would hate to think I pissed money down the drain but Vista is just intolerable and I never had any problems with XP. Would I need like XP 64 Bit to run it all? Maximum service packs? Is it possible?

Any comments greatly appreciated and appreciative :)

Xp will run nicely on that laptop, windows update should find any drivers it would need aswell.

however if you use 32 bit version of Xp it wont use all the ram,it only sees 3.25Gb.

What's wrong with Vista on the laptop? Chances are you just need to tweak it a bit to your liking. I've used Vista on my laptop and my desktop and so far haven't ran into much trouble. I'm telling you this cause some newer laptops don't have XP drivers, especially if they don't offer an XP option when you buy it.

I'll take that into consideration...I'm not sure if this was given an option for Windows XP or not but the problem with Vista is that I use a lot of programs like Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Premiere & Pinnacle...I can't use Flash or Pinnacle without Vista freezing the programs way too often which makes why I bought the laptop almost useless. When I had my 50 Gig HD / 500 Gig Ram desktop I could run all those programs without any troubles (with the exception of Premiere since it needed 1 GIG of RAM bare requirement). If I knew Vista would jack up my computer like this with it's insane unresponsiveness I might have bought a Macintosh.

I'm glad to hear there might be a chance I can use 64 bit XP on this machine...although I'm also a bit worried I might not be able to get drivers for it if I can get it running.

Anyone have anymore input?

XP 64! no No! no drivers were really made for it and i could expect that GPU has no drivers for XP 64! Practically its vista. Get 32bit xp so even if 3.25GB is being picked up you have extra ram sitting so you can use parrallels or what ever program. Practically you should have went macintosh

XP 32-bit will use up to 4 GB of RAM. You only see +/- 3.25 of usable RAM because the system will prioritize it and dish it out certain tasks, then let's you use the rest. If you have 4 Gigs, it's there, and it's being used by the system; you see what is left over.

So is that yay or nay on 64 bit? Seems like imsati & kill bill are for 32. That's interesting...didn't think I'd hear that :P

If I use 32 bit I already have a serial for it and don't need to purchase 64...money isn't an object though when it comes to my precious. :)

imsati and kill bill are right... there's less drivers for 64Bit Windows and it's really not worth it... someday when everyone is using 64Bit it'll be different, but for now I'd say go with 32Bit.

Ok...Windows XP 32 it is. Downgrade for the win :P

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone else's replies for a moment. I don't believe that XP will work. I recently bought an HP Pavillion (well, not recently, but this summer). It came with Vista on it, just like yours, and I attempted putting Windows XP-32 bit on it. I had a heck of a time trying to get it to work. The main problem was that there was little to no drivers available for it under XP since the laptop was originally designed around Vista.

So, maybe it won't be true for your laptop, but that's how it worked out for mine. I guess you can try it though. If it doesn't work, go ahead and revert back to Vista.

As a side note though, Vista should run nicely on your machine. With 4GB of RAM, a T9300, and a Radeon HD 3650 you shouldn't have any problems. If there are any problems, they are most likely user error. Many of the major kinks have already been fixed in Vista.

ATI has mobile drivers on their site. He really only needs to worry about Audio but most sound on laptops are realtek and they have always xp drivers then lastly the wifi which depends on what wifi card he has duh

It's still a pain to gather all the correct drivers. Additional devices like webcams, media card readers etc are almost impossible to get drivers for unless it's directly from the laptop manufacturers website.
