Upgrading my 8800 GTS

I have the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS. It's a great card and still pretty new but I still can't max all the settings in games like Fallout 3 and Everquest 2; I get choppy framerate.

In Fallout 3 I can max everything but have to turn fade options down a bit, like grass fade, shadow fade, actor fade, building fade, etc.

I want a card that is better.

I went to Nvidia's website and looked at some specs but I can't tell which ones are really an improvement over the 8800 GTS.

What would be a great upgrade for me? Any suggestions?

My specs:

Windows Vista SP1 32 bit.
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU at 2.4G
4 gig PC8500 DDR2 Ram at 1066 Mhz
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS

If you want a fairly cheap and good card get the 9800 GTX+. It has great performance and I think the XFX one comes with Far Cry 2.

I wouldn't get that, especially since you already have an 8800GTS. The 9800GTX is simply a newer version of the GTS, it's no better.

That's assuming you have one of the newer G92 GTS' with 512MB of RAM? Or is it one of the older G80's with 320 or 640MB of RAM? If so, I'd go for the HD4870!

I thought the 9800 GTX was just a remake of the 8800 GTX, except it runs cooler, and has a 15% performance increase?

Depending on the res that you game at Id say go for a 9800GTX+ or a 4850.

Both way better than a GTS 640. 4870 you'll get like 2-6 FPS more in high res scenes. Depends on teh price difference. They are all good cards, I'd get whatevers cheapest, there all within a 10fps difference from each other overall

Nope, it's a slightly OC'ed 8800GTS. So, if he already has a GTS (Newer G92, 512MB) he could simply OC it and get the same results as a 9800, if not better.

Anything? So then why even have the other cards like the GTX290, 9800X2, or 4870X2 on the market?

Higher end cards support max settings on higher res. Both the 4870 and GTX260 will max out anything out, but that doesn't mean it'll run it at 60FPS, some games it might but some it'll run at 30FPS and for most that's acceptable, a higher end card will allow higher res, max settings and more FPS.
