It's going to be a decent step up, I think you'd enjoy the performance.

What games do you play, what resolution and what settings do you like?

i play a variety of games range from strategy to first person shooter. I play WC3 Dota, CS, COD, FEAR, Crysis, Gears of War, bioshock, jericho and etc. I enjoy graphics, so I usually try to max out on the settings if my video card allows me , but I dont have to max out every game. I'm not sure what resolution means, is it like full screen? If so I have a 22" monitor.

Thanks!

Actually yea, I'd recommend a CPU upgrade to at least an athlon 4000. Since it's 939 it won't be cheap, if you have enough I'd recommend just going AM2..

I'm not sure what that means.Does that mean I have to change the motherboard too? I'm only a beginner, so please, if you have time, walk me through :D

thank you so much!

Yeah it does mean you have to change the motherboard. How much are you willing to spend? You can probably get a cheap AM2/AM2+ motherboard, and it depends on what processor you are going to buy. Just a note, AM2+ boards ARE compatible with AM2 processors.

hmmmm, so complicated. I'm willing to spend couple hundreds, probably around five hundred. Any motherboard and CPU you would recommend. If I change my motherboard, this means I have to change my RAM too huh? I have 4 gigs of pc3200 RAM... argh that would be wasted =/

oh nice, thank you so much. How long can these new upgrades last me until I have to change another major upgrades?

Well they're already outdated. Intel i7 with DDR3 is already out, but it won't be the norm until next year probably. This setup should keep you goin for a couple years at least..
