Is this a good monitor?

Hello all, I'm new here.

I'd like to ask if this is a good monitor. I am upgrading from a 17" with a 1:700 contrast ratio and 8 ms that I've had for about 2 years.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001294

It is a bit expensive, but it's a big size upgrade so it should last me a 2 or 3 years at least. It costs about 260 USD (400 on Newegg) where I live.

I will probably not be able to run games on full resolution and details because my graphics card isn't exactly the best, but when I upgrade next year maybe I'm not sure then I will be able to run games on nice settings and max resolution.

Thanks.

I'm worried that lowering resolution for my monitor for games will make the text large or graphics looks weird. Is this true? Will it be better to lower graphics settings?

I really wish people would list their specs in their sig...sigh.

I'm guessing you don't have the best video card, but you should be running the native resolution on your desktop (1920x1200). For games, you'll probably have to drop the resolution so that you can run them smoothly, but it's going to scale properly and fill the screen out right (unless it's some old or weird game that doesn't support 16:10 widescreen). The only difference is it won't be as sharp and clear.

It'd be nice to know at least SOMEthing about your computer...video card, processor...otherwise, I'm just stating general stuff.

And yes, that is a good monitor (and depending on your system, maybe a bit of overkill). You'll be happy with it for years to come.

Ok 9600 GT 1 GB oc
AMD athlon 6000+

for my desktop ofc I will run max resolution, but for a game like Cod4, or l4d it might look weird if I lower it.

PS: May I have your msn or a chat program if you have one like xfire or steam so it would be easier to talk?

edit: When you mean unclear and not sharp how much are you talking about? Will it be similar to what I have now? When I installed cod4 at first it was actually at a lower resolution than my native and when I took it higher I did not notice a difference

I would really recommend getting a 22" instead. You can save a lot of money and use that toward a new CPU and GPU. 24" is overkill for a 9600GT, and 22" will be plenty, especially coming from a 17".

If you want to see the visual differences, why don't you just try it out on your current system? Put stuff on high settings, play at the highest resolution your current monitor can support...then bump down the resolution a notch or two, leaving the other graphics settings untouched. You should see that things are a bit more muddy looking, especially the menu text and such.

I understand what you mean by the blurry thing. Although I'd like a 24" because they are cheap and just a very nice difference.

Maybe I'll try turning down some settings I don't know.

How is a 24" cheap? $400 is fair, but it's by no means cheap. You could get a lesser 22" and save $100-$200 for a CPU or GPU. But you can do whatever you want.

Newegg ships everywhere...

are you serious

edit:

Does Newegg.com ship internationally?

Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico.

I'll stick with my 17". If I'm going to get a new monitor I want a 24" and get good fps. I'll just save up and when I have the money I'll get a computer that I will brag about to everyone. :D

Look at the Samsung 2433BW for 299-30 MIR for a net of 269.00. This would be a better deal. I have a 17" lcd and went to a 22" and now I built another comp. I'm deciding between the 22" & 24". 22" is nice the 24" are not much more in price.
