Hi people, First of all i have a dell xps 1530, a T9300 core 2 duo processor @ 2.5 gigz, 4 gigz of ram, and a 320 gig harddrive (well only 290 gigs available). My question is if I use up about 50 percent of my harddrive space will it slow down my computers performance by alot???

Thanks

Oh and before you answer just keep in mind that I defragment on a weekly basis so no need tellng me to defragment :D

I have over 50% on my computer and don't notice a slow down, however it make be different on laptops.

Don't forget it's not usually the space that slows a computer down, when you install programs most of the time they 'conveniently' allow themselves to start at start up in turn slowing your boot process. After uninstalling many programs they leave behind stray registry keys which most of the time tell your computer to do something that is simply not possible, a good registry cleaner would do the trick to removing these entries; i recommend Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Also routinely using Eusing's Free Registry Cleaner with CCLeaner and Defraggler help to clean up temporary files; Defraggler is a defragmenting software and as you stated you already defragment but the windows defragmenter isn't as good as Defraggler and other 3rd party software.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, I am using Defraggler currently along with Ccleaner, but programs that I am looking to install on my laptop are some of the older games (not too old) like assasins creed and AOE. Also I have to help my dad with making a website, so I will install programs like frontpage and since im in animation and computer graphics I am also looking to install the whole CS3 package. I am expecting to have about 45-55 percent of my harddive free, so I dont think that there will be new startup programs or new backgrounds tasks on my laptop. Well basically I just want to know if just in general the harddive space affect how well my computer will perform.

Thanks
