Cooling/Power issues!

Hi!
I'm getting an Intel Dual Core e5200 2.5ghz, 2gb ram, 320gb HDD, pov geforce 8800gt exo running on an asus p5 series motherboard. What sort of power supply will I need, and will I be experiencing any overheating issues? So, can someone recommend a power supply and an adequate cooling system?

i would recommend a power supply over 400W at least possibly a 700W ( maybe a 'Be Quiet!' power supply as they are pretty good) which should be more than enough to keep your 8800GT running and to overclock it slightly. But with the overheating issues what sort of cooling are you looking for air or water? If your going for air then replace all the fans in your pc with new better ones as stock fans are never that good, and just replace CPU cooler as this makes a big difference. On my stock cpu cooler my core 2 was running at 50C i bought a new cpu fan recently and it has brought it down to 25C which stops it crahsing and makes it run a lot smoother. Also RAM cooling is useful as it is quite cheap and can save you from a lot of freezes.

Overall i hope i helped

Well...I'm on a tight budget so that rules watercooling out. Also, I've never over-clocked before, so I think it wouldn't be wise to start now. So you say a 700W power supply is more than enough, any specific amperage I should be looking for, or anything more than 10A will do? You're talking about the CPU fan, the case fan and a separate fan for the RAM, right?
Thanks, you've been great help! :)

Yeah anything more than 10A is fine you jut really want to go with a reasonable manufacturer and about 700W they are not too expensive a 700W im going to get is £30 off amazon and it has blue led lights in:D
But yeah if you just stick a fan everywhere it should be ok. Look inside your PC case for a grill with four hole round it fill every one of these with a fan, but fans are a pain to get in as they are on self tapping screws. But yeah all these fans dont cost too much but you only get what you pay for

glad ive helped :D

Liverun, it's best to go for about 18A, but there's no chance you need 700W.
400W is plenty, but go with 500W and 18A+ for some leg room.

OCZ Stealth XStream 500W would be a good pick ;)

yeah thats a good choice,
besides with all that stuff ur getting
its way to much power to run.
but im not sayin overkill is bad.

agreed, Kornowski is running a quad core, high end mobo, 2 8800GTS and 4 Gb ram on a 520w, so for the rig 500w is more than enough.

+4 on the OCZ

"Anything over 10A" is not fine. Not trying to flame anybody out here, but the power supply is the one component in your rig that has the potential to put on a hockey mask and kill everything else. And it sucks when you want to just pop in a quick upgrade and find out you need a bigger PSU, too.

Aftermarket fans are a great idea. The only case I've ever used the stock fans on was my old Antec 900. It came with Antec Tri-Cools, and they were great. Kind've pricey to buy, though.

Head over to the Power Supplies and Cooling section of the forum, ask the question again, and read the PSU 101s.

Thanks all, you've been great help!:D
Decided to go with 400W with a pretty good range of 18-25A. The case I got is an Asus, which the dealer said is pretty good "static"-wise, plus what impressed me the most is it's got room enough for 3 fans, I'm thinking 2 intake fans and one exhaust fan (the large one at the back). Just got it today, but the shipment was missing the 320GB HDD ...the dealer apparently forgot to pack it in with the rest of the parts, so that means it should be up and running by this time next week.:( I was so looking forward to a little Bioshock, maybe some gears of war, or crysis perhaps..oh well, better late than never I guess!;)

Are you seriously recommending him a 700w PSU? A quality one will power a quad and run SLI. You'll be amazed how overrated wattage is. Just plug a killawatt in the wall outlet and see how much power you system actually uses. I know a quality 300w PSU will be sufficient to power everything.
