I am having lots of trouble with my pc. I bought a new cpu, new mobo, and new ram. The cpu came DOA, so i got a rma and got a new one which ran for about 5 minutes, and then the computer wouldnt start anymore. all it does when i press the power button is the fans, HD's and the optical drives spin up, but it wont show anything on my screen. Also, the mjobo is supposed to beep when i dont have any ram installed, but it wont do even that. i figured maybe its my psu. its an echostar 450watt, with only like 12 amps on the one and only 12v rail. any thoughts?

What all do you have for hardware? That's the question we need to know. Tell us what you have and we can do research and give you step by step trouble shooting.

I would bet it is the RAM, graphics card or PSU

I have had my computer do the exact same thing twice...once it was the graphics card and the other it was RAM.

Here's my specs:
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (AM2)
4GB DDR2 Corsair XMS2
Radeon HD 3850
Foxconn A78AX-S

I highly doubt its my video card, as it was working perfectly fine before i started upgrading, and it still gets warm when idling. And as for my RAM, the mobo should beep if something is wrong.

If it's not beeping it would point to either the mobo or the psu in my opinion although I have seen a PC that wouldnt post coz of a ram issue.

Are there any bad looking components on the board? Look for swollen or leaking capacitors.

no, there arent any (im is brother). But his CPU was dead before, and same thing happened. Also, it was working fine for atleast 5 min. Could a malfunctioning PSU keep frying the CPU?

Well your running a 3850 with a P/S that only has one rail with 12 amps. Your lucky that it even booted for 5 minutes the second time. I would say your problem was not the CPU/motherboard/memory or Video card. The 450W mean nothing if you only have 12 amps.

About my PSU, (poor thing) I have been beating the crap out of it for a while now. It was running an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (939) 1 gig ddr ram, radeon 3850, 2 HD's, and 1 DVD drive on 1 14amp rail for months already. I surprised that $28 PSU could keep up with so much. But I guess with the new CPU and more RAM, it just cant make it. I just bought an OCZ 600watt with 4 18amp rails. that should do it. :)
