How high can I overclock the i7 920, safely?

I have it 3.2 but I heard I can get up to 4.0 with my V8 as long as I change the voltage. What is a safe voltage and how I can I get?

Honestly, how many chips have you seen people report die out on them, of after long use at certain temps/voltage, it stops working? NONE. The only story I've heard is that someone accidentally pumped over 2.0v in their QX quad and it died. It's ridiculous how low intel rates the max voltage/temp, or other specs of these.

With that said, I usually pump as much voltage through my chip as my cooler can handle (up to 80 celcius) and try to get the max clock on that. And these are 24/7 machines.

Yea well technically I'm only running 3 gigs right now. But still! And I just ran 3dMark06 after tweaking it a little bit and during the 3 graphics test it stopped working????? I tweaked my 260's a little bit.
Coreclock 700
Shaderclock 1509
MemoryClock 1180
and the fan is off and won't let me change the fan speed.......
I'll ask the question else where. Sorry.

dude hang on this has all gone the wrong way,i didnt mean to sound horrible with what i said :o i Apologize

i just think that atm there realy is no need to overclock its a real good system you have.

there isnt many people on here with i7s so not many people here will know whats the best and safe voltage is :o

For the fan try using EVGA Precision, works fine for me. :)
 
lol nah i meant the graphics card issue lol. no worries man. Also, i gave the wrong voltage its 1.304 as we speak. So if I change the voltage I can achieve higher like maybe 4.0? lol I just want THEE best! I'm an over achiever not in school though. grrr

That's my problem! lol it won't let me! it's shaded out. lol I've been trying to get it to work a couple days now. My temps running normal are 45 38. When under load they reach 67 60 ish around there according to 3Dmark06

You need to download the newest version, same thing happened with my old one. ;)

Intel Visualization Tech - Disabled
CPU TM - Disabled
A20M - Disabled.

I followed a How to OC you 920 to 4.0 but it just crashes everytime! I'm thinking it's my ram I only have 1066 6 gig of RAM. Any suggestions?
