Yeah, it's very unlikely they'll replace it. Is it a Retail disc or from a pre-built system. If from a pre-built, getting a replacement shipped gratis is hit or miss.

Nope, they won't replace it, even if you have a legit CD key. There are ways to get XP though, but I guess it's not allowed to be discussed on here.

Microsoft will replace the retail disc, I believe its like $20 or something as long as your key is valid. Call them and ask.

This is true. It costs $20 USD, and that price supposedly "is the cost of shipping and packaging material", according to one incompetent CSR at Microsoft

I bet they would, I don't know the official policy on it, but the $20 thing sounds legit, and as long as you have the disc, your key, they receipt and the packaging and all that, I'd think they would replace it.
